Legacy & IP over xDSL
![]()
For: ONE60, SafeCom 2200
The emergence of xDSL technologies enables low-cost, high-speed connections to data networks, especially corporate IP-VPN and the Internet. However, because many business critical applications still use applications based on legacy protocols, corporations must also maintain a legacy network infrastructure. Thus, Leased Lines are used for the connection of Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to a private legacy packet network. As compared to traditional access technologies, xDSL provides increased bandwidth and lower cost of ownership. The OneAccess solution bundles both legacy data and IP over a DSL uplink (ADSL or SHDSL), omitting the need for Leased Line access. IP traffic is routed by the ONE 60 on a dedicated PVC. Legacy traffic is bridged over IP. The bridging consists of performing the following protocol adaptation over IP:
The access device seamlessly emulates the Leased Line that was in previous use. Minimal changes are required to the legacy network as only some parts of the legacy network architecture are replaced by a new transport technnology. Therefore, the non-disruptive nature of the solution protects investments in legacy infrastructures and minimizes the risks associated with migrating to a new access technology. While corporations benefit from increased bandwidth, advanced IP services are also delivered. These include IP Quality of Service compatible with the new MPLS networks, security and efficient device management. Accordingly, the ONE Range of products provides a flexible platform based on enhanced IP features that can be further extended with new voice or data services. The solution also increases revenue per line, thus enhancing ROI on DSL infrastructure investments. |
