The ONECell25 router provides fast and secure access to the Internet and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) by means of an embedded EDGE/ GPRS modem. This router is fitted with 2 Ethernet interfaces.

The combination of an EDGE interface and a router is not as farfetched as it might seem. EDGE has become a wide-spread modulation technique to increase the network capacity of mobile networks. It provides a peak throughput of 236,8 kbps, thus making it a very good alternative where network connectivity is made via wired links (such as analog modem lines or ISDN). When transferred data volume is fairly limited, a subscription to an EDGE/GPRS service is cheaper than any other access technology.

The ONECell25 can first of all be used as broadband backup (xDSL or cable): xDSL links are usually the preferred paths for data transmission. Since the EDGE/GPRS interface is only sporadically active, the data volume remains relatively small. As EDGE and xDSL use different infrastructures and wires, backup on EDGE is far more robust than that on ISDN.

The ONECell25 also provides a perfect solution for certain mobile installations, for instance when the installation moves too often or installing a line requires too much construction work. In other cases internet access is out of reach and it is simply not possible to install a wired link to serve network connectivity.
